Hemifacial spasm improved with botulinum toxin

This woman has left hemifacial spasm. She exhibits spontaneous synkinetic contractions of her facial muscles. Note the elevation of the left side of her mouth occurring together with partial blinks of her left eye. The left palpebral fissure is narrower at rest than the right. She improved markedly with botulinum toxin injection. (Contributed by Dr. Joseph Jankovic.)
