Clostridium botulinum, type-E bacterial colonies

Under a low magnification of 1.9x, this image shows a close view of Clostridium botulinum, type-E bacterial colonies, which had formed on the surface of the egg yolk agar growth medium in this Petri dish culture plate, after undergoing a 48-hour incubation period. Note the opaque, opalescent nature exhibited by these characteristic type-E colonies. (Source: Photograph by Dr. Holdeman, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1965.
