Combined auditory processing map in man with bihemispheric cardioembolic infarcts in middle cerebral artery territories

Combined activation map of auditory processing in a 29-year-old right-handed man with bihemispheric cardioembolic infarcts in the middle cerebral artery territories. Activation map contrasting language conditions relative to rest for the two "spoken narrative" and "slow spoken narrative" paradigms, where only activation in a given voxel across all three paradigms is shown. The activation maps are overlain on coronal slices in two-slice increments from T1-weighted structural imaging spanning the length of Heschl's gyri bilaterally. Slices with activation of Heschl's gyri in a given hemisphere are denoted with arrows. The lesion mask (unsmoothed to allow for fine-grained interpretation of the activation patterns relative to structural damage) is depicted in blue. Left is left. Abbreviation: HG = Heschl's gyri.
