Rash on chin and lips and pigmented spots on feet in an infant with congenital syphilis

This female infant was born with congenital syphilis because while pregnant, her mother had been infected with the spirochete microorganism, Treponema pallidum. Note the papular rash on her chin and lips and the darkly pigmented spots on the soles of her feet, which are some of the possible symptoms of a congenital syphilitic infection.
