The wall of an epidermoid cyst consists of keratinizing stratified squamous epithelium with maturing lamellar keratin on the upper half of the figure. There is a layer with keratohyaline granules (arrow) in the superficial portion of viable layers. The lower half of the figure consists of gliotic brain tissue. Hematoxylin and eosin stain.
