Structure of hemoglobin

Hemoglobin is the iron-containing oxygen-transport metalloprotein in red blood cells. In humans (and most vertebrates), the hemoglobin molecule is an assembly of four globular protein subunits. The alpha and beta subunits are in red and blue, respectively, and the iron-containing heme groups are in green. (Source: Richard Wheeler (Zephyris) 2007.
