Anatomical structure of the cutaneous blood supply

The microanatomical structure of the cutaneous blood supply is arranged in a series of 1 to 3 cm cones, with the apex of each cone deep in the dermis at the site of an ascending arteriole. At the margins of each cone, the density of the arterial bed is less than in the central area, but the superficial venous plexus is more prominent. (Source: Hartig F, Reider N, Sojer M, et al.
