Postural sway of a healthy person (top) and a patient with tabes dorsalis (bottom), recorded by Hinsdale using a graphic recording apparatus around 1887. The subject stood under an index, which was free to move up and down in a fixed vertical line. (Mitchell SW, Dercum FX. Nervous diseases and their treatment: general considerations.
