Ixodes holocyclus ticks before and after feeding (shown on the palm of a human hand). These ticks were picked off of koalas in the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia. The small tick had not yet started feeding, whereas the other had probably been at work for a couple of days. The amount of blood inside the larger tick is approximately 5 milliliters.
