Qing governor Ye Mingchen (1807-1859)

London newspapers accused the Qing governor Ye Mingchen of masterminding the Esing Bakery poisoning incident in 1857. Ye was known for his resistance to British influence in Canton (Guangzhou) in the aftermath of the First Opium War and for his role in the beginning of the Second Opium War. (Source: Cooke GW.
