Coronal section of cerebrum of adult with schizencephaly

On the left side tiny microgyri connect the ventricle to the normal cortex (asterisk). On the right side the schizencephaly has separated lips, causing an open connection between the lateral ventricle and the convexity of the brain. Note the total absence of the septum pellucidum, frequently seen in schizencephaly. (Contributed by Dr. Wouter Kamphorst.)
