A generalized spike-and-wave discharge in a 13-year-old boy with a history of infrequent staring episodes that for 10 days before the EEG had increased up to eight episodes daily. During sleep, some generalized spike-and-wave discharges were recorded with no clinical symptoms. During hyperventilation, he stopped counting, his eyes remained closed, and he became restless with some chewing movements. He recovered immediately after the discharge.
