Bacteriologist Ida A Bengtson (1881-1952) (2)
Ida Bengtson on January 1, 1848. Dr. Bengtson was the first woman scientist in the Public Health Service. In 1937, she was transferred to Washington, D.C. Her former laboratory in the Public Health Service had become the Division of Infectious Diseases of the National Institute of Health. Bengtson was awarded the Typhus Medal in 1947 by the American Typhus Commission. Dr. Bengtson died in 1952, at the age of 71.
