Papular rash on his back, hips and buttocks due to congenital syphilis

This male infant was born with a condition known as congenital syphilis because his mother had been infected with the spirochete microorganism, Treponema pallidum, while pregnant and transferred the infection to her child by way of the placenta. Note the papular rash on his back, hips, and buttocks, which is one of the possible symptoms of a congenital syphilitic infection.
