Angular stomatitis in yaws infection

The face of this young child revealed evidence of a disease known as yaws, a nonvenereal endemic syphilis, caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum subspecies pertenue. Note the angular stomatitis, which begins as papules at the corners of the mouth and eventually splits, resulting in a painful open wound.
