Benjamin Franklin holds a book titled Electric Exp[erimen]ts, with scientific instruments to his left and with lightning striking a village in the background. Engraving by James McArdell (approximately 1729-1765 from a painting by Benjamin Wilson (1721-1788). Franklin sat for Wilson, who also experimented with electricity, shortly after his arrival in London. Franklin worked in London as a foreign diplomat representing the Pennsylvania Assembly.
