Dr. Sidney Farber MD was the founder of Children's Hospital Cancer Research Foundation in the 1950s and 1960s. The Photograph was taken in 1960 for the National Cancer Institute of the US National Institutes of Health. In 1957, Farber described the first patient with Farber lipogranulomatosis. Farber disease is now recognized as a genetically determined deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme acid ceramidase. (Public domain.)
