German pathologist Friedrich Daniel von Recklinghausen

German pathologist Friedrich Daniel von Recklinghausen (1833-1910) is most known for his monograph in 1882 (Ãœber die multiplen Fibrome der Haut und ihre Beziehung zu den multiplen Neuromen) in which he reviewed previous literature and characterized the tumors of neurofibromatosis type I as neurofibromas. Among other contributions, he characterized osteitis fibrosa cystica, which has been called von Recklinghausen disease of bone. (Courtesy of the U.S. National Library of Medicine.)
