Blood smear from a 68-year-old woman with a 13-year history of polycythemia vera treated with phlebotomy, 32P (32-phosphorus), and hydroxyurea. There was a 6-to 7-month history of decreasing hemoglobin level and platelet count. There are 3 red blood cell precursors present and slight-to-moderate anisopoikilocytosis. (Wright-Giemsa stain.)
