IVIg inhibits complement at the C3a level (1, arrow) 2 days after the infusion (2) and intercepts the formation of MAC. As a result, MAC is not detected in the repeated muscle biopsies of the improved patients anymore (3a, 3b). The interception of MAC allows the restoration of the endomysial microvasculature, neovascularization (3c, 3d) and resolution of the perifascicular atrophy (3e, 3f).
