Engraved by James McArdell (approximately 1729-1765). Benjamin Franklin, in a half-length portrait, stands facing slightly left, holding a book, "Electric Expts"; scientific instruments are to his left, and in the background, lightning strikes a village. From a painting by Benjamin Wilson. Franklin sat for Wilson, who also experimented with electricity, shortly after his arrival in London.
