Patient with rhinocerebral mucormycosis infection of her face (1)

Captured in a clinical setting, this patient presented with a rhinocerebral mucormycosis infection of her face, caused by the fungal organism, Rhizopus arrhizus. Note the left eye proptosis, with accompanying ptosis of the upper lid, and generalized palpebral swelling and erythema. Also note the decreased wrinkles on the left forehead and the depressed nasolabial fold and depressed corner of the mouth on the left, indicating left peripheral facial paresis.
