Silver and lead smelting

Photograph from San Francisco by American photographer Carleton E Watkins (1829-1916), 1871-1891. This was one of a pair of stereophotographs. Watkins focused mainly on landscape photography, and Yosemite Valley was one of his favorite subjects. Notice the stacked piles of large ingots (presumably lead, but possibly silver).
