Tapping floor of a blast furnace in the American Smelting & Refining Co.'s plant at Murray, Utah. "The arrangement In the Midvale plant is exactly the same. Slag is pouring out into the forehearth and overflowing into the slag pot in front. The day being quiet, no fumes are escaping. This is, however, not the case at all times. When the wind blows in toward the furnace the tapping floor seen in the left corner may be thick with fumes. The side of the building facing these furnaces is all open." (Source: Hamilton A.
