Ten-gram monofilament mounted in a handheld unit for protection of the filament. The device is placed perpendicular to the skin of the sole, and pressure is applied until the filament bends. Patient is asked to respond with eyes closed. The leprosy patients who are not able to feel the 10-gram monofilament are at risk of developing a plantar ulcer. (Contributed by Ravindra Kumar Garg.)
