Hydroxychloroquine has a low potential for damage to the retina known. Most physicians who treat patients with this medication recommend a dose of 400 mg per day. This daily dose is known to be very safe; however, as seen here, some patients do develop retinopathy. This patient had been taking 400 mg daily for 5 years. Her macula has a granular appearance with no foveal reflex. (Contributed by Dr. Rosa Tang.)
